Self Inflicted has one 120VAC and four totally independent DC electrical systems with
combiners in appropriate locations to allow for recharging from a single 12V and single 24V alternators as can be seen in the attached diagram [ click here ].
The following text and photographs provide additional system details.
All critical systems run on the 24V house bank including radar, GPS, navigation lights, and scanning sonar. |
VAC Shore Power Breakers
Separate breaker panel 50 ft. 30A shore connection.
All 120VAC electrical circuits, that touch the boat, are isolated using a Marine Shore Power Isolation Transformer. These circuits are based on 10 guage wire in PVC conduit. |

120V AC Shore Power Breakers
This is the panel's rear prior to being wired.
At right is the double breaker (30A) which is the master. Next from the right is the 15A breaker for the 24VDC charger, next the 15A breaker for the 12VDC charger,
next the 15A breaker for the hot water heater, then the 15A breaker for the double outlet shown above. 15A breakers 5 and 6 are spares.
At left the red and yellow wires are for 12VDC to power the label LEDs. |

Battery Locker
The battery locker holds the starting and house battery banks protected, port and starboard, by the twin stainless steel fresh water tanks.

DC Breaker Panels
Below the Interphase scanning sonar and Horizon VHF are the three DC breaker panels. The large panel (left) is services the 24V house bank with a single white switch that energizes a solenoid for the forward 24V bank. The two smaller panels are for the 12V house bank. |

Night Illumination Floor Lighting
Note the floor-level red LED lights for night-time illumination where it is needed the most ... at floor level.
This innovation was inspired by Boeing's use of floor lighting on its planes that, in an emergency, leads passengers to the nearest exit. |
