If you're like me then you don't want to have to leave the wheel to go to the nav.
station to figure out where you are. Don't want to try to read the details on a chart plotter or see a dot on a radar screen under the glare of
a bright sun.
And you sure don't want to bet that those fancy electronics are working at the worst of times.
The cockpit of Self Inflicted was designed with the same care and detail as the cockpit of an airplane. From a single location you can see what you need
to see no matter the conditions. Steer by wheel or autopilot. Navigate by GPS or fluxgate or magnetic compass, using chart plotter or paper charts.
And up on the first starboard-side spreader (visible through the dome): A remote controlled searchlight so you can see what is ahead or signal large ships
(and I have a great story about that for you if you ask).

Standby Navigation

This compass is stored in the stern locker for mounting on the binnacle in the event that there is an electronics
failure affecting the chartplotter and primary GPS. |
