Mast & Main

The new main has finally been fully rigged with two reef, Cunningham, and outhaul.

Here's Cassie running the lines forward to the mast for our in-slip tests.

Masthead

Working from top-to bottom you can see the masthead instrumentation:
  • Raytheon Anemometer
  • 24VDC Tricolor & Strobe
  • Mechanical Wind Vector
  • VHF Whip
Below that the steaming light and at the bottom of the picture the upper spreaders

On the masthead the wind direction and wind speed monitors, the masthead tricolor and strobe as well as a short VHF antenna.

Courtesy Flag

Canadian courtesy flag flying from the starboard spreader halyard.

When this picture was taken the spreader searchlight was down for repair: It would normally be fastened to the pad just to the left of the flag.

Spreaders

The spreaders are home to a remote steerable searchlight providing both search capabilities and the ability to point a very bright light at the bow for anchoring, at the stern for working with the dinghy, and on deck for multiple activities.

Jib Sheet Winch

Lewmar 44 Self Tailing. One of these winches is located just outside both the port and starboard pilothouse doors.

Port & Starboard Sheet Winch

Port and starboard these Lewmar STC30 winches are mounted to the bulkhead through stainless steel trays that catch water from sheets and funnel them back to their natural environment.

The green sheet is the staysail and the red the main sheet.

80% #3 NorDac Jib

The jib (blue sheets) is clearly seen flying outside the staysail (green sheets) while approaching Bainbridge Island under light wind as viewed from the port-side pilothouse door. The main is flaked on the boom.

The jib is rated for a maximum apparent wind speed of 30 knots.

Staysail

This picture shows the staysail flying inside the jib with the main flaked on the boom under light wind as viewed from the bow pulpit.

First Reef

Reef Points

First reef in red (port), second reef in blue (starboard).

Many of these pictures were taken with the lines accidentally reversed while doing the initial rigging.

Genoa

No more than a 1 knot wind today so I pulled out the Genoa and hoisted it to look at the condition and take measurements.

Information here is for building a long-tube deck bag.

Genoa

This picture was taken without sheets and the clue just tied off to a stanchion so a measurement could be taken for a new on-deck sail bag.

Yes it's a bit older and has some dirty but in light winds she does what she is intended to do ... provide a lot of square footage of lightweight dacron.

And because Self-Inflicted has twin forestays she runs wing-and-wing with the jib to one side and the genoa to the other.
